The Witch
This game requires an empty glass and a rigid set of rules to follow regarding the passing of the glass. The first player to fail to observe these rules must drink four fingers worth of the penalty drink.
The player chosen to start takes the empty glass with their hand overturned upon the glass. This player then offers the glass to another player and says ‘This is the witch’.
The next player does not accept the glass just yet but replies with ‘The what?’ and the player still holding the glass repeats ‘The witch’. The player can now take the glass, saying ‘Ah! The witch’.
This player now continues the game in the same manner but when the player offered the glass gets to the stage where they say ‘The what?’ but then returns to the first player, repeating the question. The first player replies with ‘The witch’ and the second player repeats this and the third player replies with ‘Ah! the witch’, takes the glass and continues.
The game continues in this manner, bringing more and more players in each time until the game gets incredibly complex and confusing and a great deal of drunkenness ensues.
Variations of this game can include different names for the glass in place of the witch, but a more complex version requires that, for example, you could use countries beginning with ‘S’. This means that the game could begin with ‘This is Sweden) and the next player who has to say the name, needs to use another name of a country beginning with ‘S’. The same name cannot be repeated during that game.
