21

This is a very straightforward drinking game where players sit in a circle formation where the primary aim is to avoid saying ‘21′.

Once a player is chosen to start, they begin the game by saying ‘To my right, to my left’ followed by the number one, and the game continues around the circle of players in the direction where the first player started counting.

A player can say certain numbers that will influence the game. If the player says a single number alone, the game must continue in the current direction, if the player says two numbers in a row, the direction of the turns is reversed and three numbers in a row excludes the next player from that round.

Repeating more of these sets of numbers in a row is against the rules. This means that a single number cannot be said thrice in a row, nor two numbers, nor three. If a player breaks this rule, they need to drink three fingers worth of their drink and the other players will sing the phrase ‘three in a row’ to go together with this.

The game continues until the number 21 comes up or someone makes the mistake above, or if someone utters the incorrect number or being out of turn. In this case, the player drinks two fingers and the game begins again from the number 1.

If a player is in a situation where they have to say the number 21, the game stops and the player in question has to finish their remaining drink and the game starts again from 1.

The catch to this game is, that any player who lost the previous game by saying ‘21′ now has the opportunity to come up with a new rule for all the following games. This can be anything the player decides on, common ideas being to replace a particular number with a certain phrase or action or replacing multiples of a number with the equivalent in a different language.

Failing to comply with the new rule will result in having to drink two fingers or the drink remaining. The number of rules continues to increase in this way, and the game gets much more challenging as a result.
